Geo-thermal Pipes

Geothermal

East Harbour has extensive experience in the geothermal area with assignments for industrial and commercial energy users in New Zealand and overseas.  We have a particular focus on geothermal process heat supply, smaller-scale electricity generation and a range of heat applications, such as horticulture, aquaculture and health spas.

We are leading the introduction into New Zealand of enhanced geothermal technologies for site-specific applications for process heat, associated electricity generation, and the use of low-enthalpy geothermal resources for heat supply.

We utilise our strong relationships with specialist advisors in areas such as geology and geophysics, reservoir development and process engineering.

Recent geothermal studies
  • Geothermal heat supply to a large greenhouse complex
  • Enhanced geothermal heat supply and associated power generation at two large industrial processing sites
  • Small scale binary cycle electricity generation from medium temperature and high temperature resources for a Maori Trust
  • Binary cycle electricity generation from a low temperature resource
  • The secondment of a geothermal advisor to a World Bank team planning the financing of major geothermal developments in Indonesia
  • Potential and development options for a geothermal strategy for a group of Maori trusts
  • Feasibility assessment for a geothermal heat pump spa development

Brian White is the ex-Executive Officer for the New Zealand Geothermal Association, a position he had held for the past 12 years.  He is a sort-after commentator for geothermal energy updates.  Assists commercialisation of geothermal resources and is an experienced developer of the business case for new projects.

We have prepared reports on:

  • Distributed energy opportunities (heat and electricity) for geothermal energy in New Zealand (for the Geothermal Association)
  • The direct use of geothermal energy (for EECA/Geothermal Association)
  • Geothermal direct-use renewables targets (for EECA), in co-operation with GNS Science
  • Review of renewable energy resources (including geothermal energy) for MED
  • Extensive work with government departments in developing technical databases and policy inputs related to renewable energy uptake, including geothermal and both heat and electricity generation options.
